Trails of Tasmania

Part 2

Back in Tasmania! My 2019 visit was shorter than the previous one but I filled as much as possible in! While a small city, there is so much to do in Hobart. A spectacular standout is the hike from Fern Gully (I can’t help but think of the movie) to the summit of kunanyi/Mount Wellington on the land of the Muwinina people.

Funnily enough, it was uphill the whole way with a boulder scramble to reach the top. As seen below it was a glorious day (I keep getting those) with views across Hobart and beyond. The summit was a different story. Covered in fog and wind, I could not see beyond a few metres. My plan to rest and recuperate there was quickly abandoned, and I retreated a few metres down back into summer.

The short drive to Richmond is a day trip I highly recommend. Reminiscent of English countryside, it features beautiful scenery with local markets and shops that display unique, hand crafted goods (and food).

A touristy ferry ride from Hobart, MONAS was a destination I had been looking forward to for a long time. The Museum of Old and New Art was like no gallery I had been to before. With interactive exhibits that people of all ages could enjoy, it takes more than one visit to appreciate fully.

Plus the seats on the ferry are animals – like the ones you find on Ferris wheels!

While focusing on Hobart meant I could explore the local area and spend time with my friend, I am really looking forward to exploring more of Tasmania, and have several more areas on my bucket list!
